Historical outline

1991-1999

The “Fundacja Bielski College Gospodarki Rynkowej” was established as the Bielsko Academy of Business. Mrs. Ewa Madoń was the first manager. Co-operation agreements were signed with partners in the USA and Europe. The Academy of Business was transformed into a higher vocational school with Management as its main topic. The school then changed its name to Bielska Wyższa Szkoła Biznesu. Programmes included training of Polish entrepreneurs and social activists in the field of international culture (offered partly in English).

The Business Advisory Council was established to discuss the strategic direction of the school. With the founders of Prywatna Wyższa Szkoła Informatyki i Zarządzania, Bielska Wyższa Szkoła Biznesu i Informatyki im. J. Tyszkiewicza was established. The connection of the schools significantly expanded the material and resource base, to a total area of ​​4000 m2, its own hotel, 25 classrooms, 3 computer labs, students’ club, sports’ and leisure facilities, its own restaurant and a library equipped with more than 14,000 books.

Membership of the Consortium of American Universities, led to the offer of courses in International Business, Management and the Media,Computer Science: Computer Aided Design, and Computer Science in Management. The first school’s website was created and the first advertising events in the Podbeskidzie Region were promoted. A “Quality Mark” accreditation was awarded by “European Quality Link.”

Linkages with the College of Foreign Languages ​​and Economics in Czestochowa and National Louis University in Nowy Sącz allowed students to study master degrees there. A contract with Kensington College of Business in London and the David Game College Group gave other international exchange opportunities in places including London and Dublin. Contracts with 4 non-state schools allowed agreement on a common educational policy. European Credit Transfer System credits became available.

2000-2004

The University organized a “Science Festival” in Bielsko-Biala, presenting scientific and didactic educational achievements by cultural and higher education in our region. It organized international conferences including Diagrammatics and Design and a Genetic Algorithms Workshop. The Business Centre Club was joined, and a grant from the Leonardo da Vinci fund covered internships for international students.

Linkage with the University of Wales obtained UK accreditation for the University. British and Polish diplomas were then offered. British titles included: Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Management and Marketing, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science and a Master of Arts in computer animation for a two-year postgraduate program.

An Association of Management Education “Forum” re-accredited the Faculty of Management maintaining the quality mark for this program since 1998. An agreement with Cisco Networking Academy, Microsoft and Novell, enables students to acquire international certificates. The International Education Society gave the university a degree of quality (A). The School was awarded a “European Medal” by the Office of European Integration and Business Centre Club, and the “Golden Award” Silesian Regional Business Club.

2005-2010

The University expanded specializations in Management (until October 1, 2006 Management and Marketing) and international post-graduate studies. It received more grants from the Leonardo da Vinci organization. The University also received accreditation from the Association of Management Education “Forum” and the Polish Information Processing Society for Computer Science. A positive evaluation of theNational Accreditation Committee in the Faculty of Management was received.

The University launched a new degree program in Landscape Architecture in collaboration with the Secondary Vocational School of Horticulture in Bielsko – Biala. Two years later Interior Design was offered. A 2-year EU funded project was undertaken -postgraduate studies were offered in co-operation with the Polish Academy of Hospitality. In 2009 a new undergraduate degree program in Cosmetologywas offered. A 3-year EU funded project was undertaken to develop and improve the process of teaching and learning in BWS.

Due to the constant development of the undergraduate programmes,  the school’s name was changed to Bielska Wyższa Szkoła im. J. Tyszkiewicza, and its location to a newly purchased building at 12 Nadbrzeżna Street.

2010 – 2015

EU Funds were obtained to implement a 4-year project aimed at developing and improving the process of teaching and learning in BWS together with partners:

  2. Hotel & SPA Kocierz STANPOL
  3. WAWROSZ s.j. Hotel Jawor
  4. „JANUSZÓWKA” Landscape Architecture Design Studio in Bielsko-Biała
  5. Wyższa Szkoła Administracji w Bielsku-Białej

In September, Rector Ewa Madoń retired and a new Rector appointed, Jerzy Chrystowski. Mrs. Ewa Madoń became a Chancellor.

EU Funds to implement a 2-year project in collaboration with Ani-ROBER Anna Miodońska commenced.

positive evaluation of the National Accreditation Committee in the Faculty of Computer Science and Landscape Architecturewas received.

2012 – XX Anniversary

Establishing Acadamic Bilingual High School and Gimnasium.

Acquisition of further EU funds as part of the competition 1 / POKL / 4.1.1 / 2011 for the implementation of a 2-year project under the name Podbeskidzka Strefa Edukacji – improvement of quality management in Bielska Wyższa Szkoła im. J. Tyszkiewicz. According to the Decision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, the institution’s founder is Ms Krystyna Tyszkiewicz. 5th place for writing the best curriculum in the field of Cosmetology in a nationwide competition announced by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. As a reward, the University receives one million zlotys.

2013

Pursuant to the Decision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, the founder of the University is Ms. Ewa Madoń. Title of the Honorary Founder of the BWS J. Tyszkiewicza is given to Ms. Krystyna Tyszkiewicz – widow after Józef Tyszkiewicz – patron of our University. Delegation to the USA: As part of the EU project “Podbeskidzka Education Zone – improving quality management at the Bielska Wyższa Szkoła im. J. Tyszkiewicz. ” Undertaking cooperation with American universities by our University: m.in. a visit to – Computer Science Institute; Weinberg College of Arts & Sciences Northwestern University, The New Age Spa Institute. Inauguration of the School Year of Academic Bilingual High School at BWS J. Tyszkiewicz.

2014

Introduction of a new education method in the field of Cosmetology based on external models. Acquisition of EU funds: Project “We create competences for practice – development of the teaching potential of BWS in cooperation with employers” Sub-measure 4.1.1 Strengthening the teaching potential of the university Implementation time: 01/02/2014 – 30/06/2015

2015

Establishment of the Training Institute of the Bielsko Wyższa Szkoła im. Józef Tyszkiewicz. Implementation of courses and trainings. Start of study in the study by the listener – Cosmetic Service Technician.

2016

Creation of the specialty Healthy Lifestyle Trainer in the field of Cosmetology.

Creation of the Computer Graphics Studio at the Interior Architecture.

2017

The university celebrates its 25th anniversary
